Rules for the "Birkebeiner Medal"
New rules (2009) for how the precious "Birkebeiner Medal" (merket) time limit is calculated.
After Birkebeinerrennet started using seeded wave start in 2005, few participants were able to finish within the time limit for the precious "Birkebeiner Medal".
Therefore Birkebeienerrennet decided to make some changes.
The calculations are as before (the average time of the 5 top competitors plus 25%, worked out separately for each class).
Birkebeinerrennet does no longer have eliteclasses. However, the competitors that are best seeded in the ageclasses for women and men will start in elitewaves. These competitors will not affect the calculation of the time limit for the "Birkebeiner Medal" in their ageclasses.
All competitors starting in the elitestarts will get their results in their ageclasses, and prizes in their ageclasses. Participants in FIS Marathon Cup will not be affectet. They will have their own list of results. You can view the new seeding requirements here: Seedingtable
