HalvBirken cycle has seeded wave start and free seeding.

You must choose which wave to start in when entering the race. You can also change wave at My Page if available spots until August 24th. If a wave does not show up that means that the wave is full.

Classes
M/F 17-19 years old, M/F 20-29 years old, 30-39 years old and so on. There are also classes for Physically disabled men and women, Without time keeping and EL-bike Without time keeping. Age must be 17 years old by 31.12.23.

Without time keeping and EL-bike
In the class "Without time keeping"  and "EL-bike Without time keeping" will the result not be shown any place. The participants will be shown in the result list as participated.
Participants in EL-bike Without time keeping start in wave 3.

All participants finishing the race recieves a participation medal at the finish line.
A diploma stating your time is also available at your My Page or inside Håkons Hall at the race day.

Ceremony
The top three in each age class recieve their prizes from the stage in Håkons Hall.

Luggage transport
You can deliver your luggage at either at Håkons Hall before entering the bus to the start or in the starting area.

Luggage labelled with your name and start number, will be brought from the start area to the finish area.

Luggage claim is north of Kristins Hall, Lillehammer. If it is raining we will provide plastic bags to keep your luggage dry.

Transport of luggage is included in the entry fee.
The organizers accept no liability for loss of luggage.

Bus to the starting area
Bus to the starting area departs from Sigrid Undsets veg below Kristins Hall (Håkons Hall) Saturday morning at 12.15.
The ticket costs NOK 50,- and must be preordered at your My Page

Please park your car by Håkons Hall, and use the bus transport to the starting area.

Cycles are transported in trucks following the bus

Parking
Parking is available northeast of Håkons Hall and on Randgaardsjordet. Follow the signs to the designated parking area. There is a fee of NOK 75,- Parking tickets are sold on site.

Preliminary information 2021

Participants which has not reached the following destinations by the listet hour, will not be allowed to finish the race due to safety reasons

Elgåsen by 18.30

The track is 86 km. Starting area is in the centre of Rena and finish line at Håkons Hall, Lillehammer.

The food stations are all organized with bananas, pastry, Maxim sports drink and water served in that order. Refill of water is available on the end table.

The track separates in two "lanes" before entering the food station arean. Keep to the left if you want to continue the race, without stopping for food and drinks..

If you need special food due to allergies, we strongly recommend that you bring your own food.

Keep Birken clean
littering along the track is not allowed. Bring your litter to the nearest food station or use the drop zones along the track.

Bike guide in Birkebeinerrittet

The bike guides will offer information about the track, technical aid if needed, extra motivation and good company over the mountains.

The bike guides will be available in some of the unseeded waves and you will easily spot them with their yellow helmets and vests.

Classes

• Age classes for both female and male contestants (Age classes are divided as follows: F/M 17 yrs, F/M 18-19 yrs, F/M 20-24 yrs, F/M 25-29 yrs, F/M 30-34 yrs etc)

• Tour class (Trim)
• All-Road - (gravel bike)
• Tandem
• Tandem FH (physically disabled),
• FH men and women (physically disabled). Note: To participate in the classes for disabled you must provide a classification certificate from The Norwegian Sports Federations.
• El cycle (Electric bike)
• No time keeping: Your time and result will not be available for you or anyone else to see. You will be at the result list in alpahbetical order as a finisher.

Age minimum 17 years old as per 31.12.2023.

Dynamic seeding
Competitors will be seeded in waves according to results obtained in previous Birkebeinerrittet races or in races sanctioned for qualification.The fastest competitors will start first. Our intention is that all competitors should start in a wave where they qualitatively belong and thus compete with their equals.
The seeding will change regularly until the second/third week in August. After this date the information regarding wave and starting time will be final. All participants must log in to My Page, and print/download their starting card, which holds all information about wave and starting time. You need to show this card to retrieve your bib.

Allocation of wave 2023
Waves will be allocated on the basis of results in Birkebeinerrittet 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018 or 2017 and results in from races sanctioned for qualification in 2023.

Elite classes
Note that there are special rules for qualification for the Elite classes

For participants outside of Norway,
results from other races will also be assessed for qualification. Such results must be from 2022. If you want to reseed due to results from other races please send an e-mail including your Birken ID and link for the results to: seeding@birkebeiner.no as early as possible, but by August 23th at the latest.

If you want seeding from one of the qualifiaction races in Norway you must enter your Birken ID number when you register for one of these.
Participants with no confirmed qualification will be placed into one of the unseeded waves.

All re-seeding must be submitted by August 11th.

Age division
Senior elite: Age minimum 19 years old by 31.12.2023
Junior elite: Age 17 or 18 years old by 31.12.2023

Entrants in the elite classes and/or junior elite classes must hold a valid licence issued by a National Federation affiliated to the UCI, which must be presented on registration. If the licence cannot be used as identification, the participant must show another type of identification.Løype

• Women elite and women elite jr.: 10.00
• Men elite and men elite jr.: 14.00

The track
The course is appr. 86 km (See track description and map, slightly different for men and women).
The elite groups have their own track for the last part of the race: This dedicated route will be closed after the lead groups has passed the finish line as follows:

• Men Elite Sr./Jr. - 45 minutes after the winner in Men elite has passed the finish line
• Women Elite - 30 minutes after the winner in Women Elite has passed the finish line.

Competitors arriving after that time will need to follow the ordinary track to the finish line.
Please follow instructions given by our guards in yellow wests.

There is a time limit based on the average time of the top 5 competitors plus 25% in each class, worked out separately for each class.

NOTE: There is no Birkebeiner medal "merke" in the classes All-Road, EL-cycle, Elite or in the Tour class (Trim).

A diploma stating your time is also available at your My Page or inside Håkons Hall at the race day.

Ceremony
The top three in each age class recieve their prizes from the stage/Håkons Hall. Retrieve your other prizes, pins and diplomas at the prize desk inside Håkons Hall.

Participants that have reached the milestones of entering 10, 20 or 30 times in total: Birkebeinerrittet 86, FredagsBirken cycle and/or TurBirken cycle 86 recieve one gourmet dinner plate from our prize collection. The plate is ingraved

Anyone who wins the mountains prizes or the finish prizes must meet in order to receive prizes.

Transportation of luggage from start to finish is included in the entry fee.

• It is your responsibility to tag your luggage and hand it in to the truck labelled with your wave. Tags are included in your race packet. In the event of heavy rain, you will be given plastic bags to keep your luggage dry.
• The trucks are on the parking area, east of Åmot kulturhus, Rena.
• You will receive your luggage at the finish, in Lillehammer.
• The organizers accept no liability for loss of baggage.

Participants which has not reached the following destinations by the listet hour, will not be allowed to finish the race due to safety reasons

• Kvarstad by 16.00
• Elgåsen by 18.00

All participants are expected to cross the finish line by 19.30

Free shuttles are provided for participants that must abandon the race.

• Rena, Fabrikkveien 2,  to Lillehammer 11.00 and 14.15.
• Kvarstad to Lillehammer 16.00.

Track information for UltraBirken cycle
Start at Pellestova and finish at Håkons Hall, Lillehammer.
The track information for 2023 will be released Monday August 21st.

Note:
All competitors must download correct GPS-track and follow the correct track. It is the competitors own responsibility to cycle the correct UltraBirken track and see to that their navigation equipment has sufficient power during the race.
The GPS-track will be released August 21st.

Refill of water to private bottles is on the last table in the row (self service).

Do not litter the nature
Throw your litter in the drop zones or bring it to the fninsh.

Seeding
UltraBirken cycle has seeded wave start.

• All races that are sanctioned for seeding for Birkebeinerrittet 2022 will also be seeding races for UltraBirken cycle 2022.
• In addition: Races specially for UltraBirken:
  • Å i Heiane 68 km, May 14.
  • Terrengsykkelrittet 2 runder, May 28.
  • Offroad Finnmark 150, 300 and 700km, July 23-31.
  • Offroad Valdres 85 and 150km, August 6.
  • TransØsterdalen sammenlagt, August 12-14.
• Men qualified for the Men Elite class group A in Birkebeinerrittet will start in wave 1.
• Women qualified for Women Elite class group A in Birkebeinerrittet will start in wave 3
• All others: Time seeding according to the seeding rules mentioned above.

Participants that must abandon the race
If you abandon the race, you MUST call or send a text message to +47 90559003. This is very important, to prevent a full scale search for you.

The track is about 16 km, start at Birkebeineren Ski Stadium and finish at Haakons Hall. After start the track takes you south at Sjøsetervegen on gravel and asphalt. This part is part of the Brikebeinerrittet track, but in opposite direction.

At 5 km, the highest point in the track (589 meters above sea level the track turns right and takes you out of the Birkebeinerrittet track and to Sagmyra. From there to Myggbukta there are about 1 km om gravel and path. From that point you will cycle on a good gravel road until you reach the food and -drink station at Mesnasaga.

From Mesnasaga to Vårsæterveien you will cycle on path. From Vårsetervegen til Kanalen it is a wide gravel road. At the end of Kanalen the track again takes you on to the Birkebeinerrittet track. There are some sharp turns on asphalt road before you reach Ballettbakken. The track goes down on the right at Ballettbakken (gravel and grass). It is narrow, steep and bumpy going down Old Nordsetervei - Try to slow down.
You will reach the finish line at Haakons Hall at 16 km  after going down Kleivbakken.

One drink station: Water and Maxim Sports drink.

Finish: Water, lemonade, banana and Gilde sausage.

Sykkelservice after 10 km

The race is run according to NCF's laws and regulations. In addition there are also special regulations for UngdomsBirken cycle.

• All competitors must have the Bib fastened visible on the handlebar.
• You may not start using another person's entry/bib.
• For your safety it is not allowd to use any form of audio during the race.

Backpack/clothing
All participants, regardless of class, must carry a 1,5 kilo backpack during the entire race, until crossing the finish line. The backpack must be visible, and can not be worn underneath clothing or bib.
The backpack must contain food, drink, tools and hose kit.

Violating the rules
Participants violating the rules will be disqualified.
